DO NOT REPOST THIS ANYWHERE ELSE OR EVEN MENTION IT. From: Mark Lin To: [email protected] Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 00:27:25 -0700 Subject: Abuse: theoutboards.com To whom it may concern, It is my regret to inform you that one of your hostees, theoutboards.com, violated your Acceptable Use Policy in a manner that severely affected one of my company-owned websites. My name is Mark Lin, Vice Chairman of Ingenious Genesis, Inc., a website design and operation company based in the United Kingdom. Among our properties is the "Life, Universe, and Everything" Community Boards located at www.lue.olddh.com (now offline), a forum for teenagers and adults to converse about life, current issues, and miscellany. The owner of theoutboards.com, "Outbreakorn" (Zachary Getz), posted a topic (theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67107) at 1/1 12:28 AM GMT on his boards inciting the users on his message boards to attack my company's boards. His post is as follows: "Everyone make as many accounts as you can. The attack will come tomorrow. I suggest not using your name here, as they will most likely be alerted of this." Since my board's URL was posted on the Outboards, tens of users from the Outboards already invaded my company's boards even before the planned attack time. Among the attacks were repeated postings of offensive messages such as "The admins here are pathetic failures", "This board will be hacked within 3 days", etc. I have logs of at least 100 offensive messages from 8-10 different Outboards users. Additional topics: http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67121 http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67127 http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67081 These actions, and Outbreakorn's condoning of them, violates the "Attacks and Exploits" clause of your AUP. This is not the first time the Outboards has plotted to invade another board. About 4-5 months ago, a community called whiteFyre (whitefyre.com/boards) was invaded in an attack headed by Jay (http://theoutboards.com/boards/whois.php?user=6), an Outboards administrator. After taking advantage of an exploit to access the admin controls, he trashed the whiteFyre user database by deleting large chunks of it, and posted offensive images from "goatse.cx" on whiteFyre's homepage. He then put into place his own administration team and ejected all the legitimate ones. Luckily, no permanent damage was done as the whiteFyre databases were backed up a day before his attacks. For verification purposes, the whiteFyre owner, ultimategamer00, can be contacted at "[email protected]". Additionally, the Outboards violate your policy's "Content" clause by condoning links to adult websites, pirated software, and hacker programs/archives. While these actions do not directly affect my company's property, I would still like to bring them to your attention. In this topic (http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=66351), users share links to illegal serial websites for personal benefit. The green "+1 Virtue" at the top of the post signifies an admin-rewarded post for "quality", "humor", "intelligence", or "helpfulness" (in this case helpfulness) per the admin's discretion. In this topic (http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67019), one of the users offers to share illegal passwords to pornography membership websites, and users request them. Whether joking or not, all of this is condoned by the moderators and administrators. Extremely offensive racial slurs are also commonplace there. This URL (http://theoutboards.com/boards/messagelist.php?board=10&topic=67084) links to a topic posted by a moderator, who was later rewarded by an administrator for humor based on usage of a heavily offensive term. I hope you will take the time to look into these violations, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Happy new year, and best regards. Sorry to use this term here, but PWNED! Alright, now that my LUEser instincts have been satisfied, my question is, how could they not shut them down? And if they don't would you like users to email the host with the same complaints? I'm not suggesting a flood, but I mean, more people than just one? I don't plan on emailing them, as that email should be enough for the host to realize they need to take action. --- BibLUEcal Horseman #3 NINJA ASSASSIN. |

They haven't taken action yet and it's been 2 days, so we may have to get additional users to email them, unfortunately. :( |

Do we need to do this? Evidently they're threatening to write scripts and all to shut us down, and I'll be damned if I can tell if it's real. Of course there's that little voice in the back of my head saying that Jay lied about admin account passwords and this could very well be the same thing... --- BibLUEcal Horseman #3 NINJA ASSASSIN. |
