Onion: I mean, it's not like I'd have tables without proper indexing or be performing "SELECT COUNT(*)..." queries everywhere >_>

~_~

COUNT(expr)
Returns a count of the number of non-NULL values in the rows retrieved by a SELECT statement.

COUNT(*) is somewhat different in that it returns a count of the number of rows retrieved, whether or not they contain NULL values.

COUNT(*) is optimized to return very quickly if the SELECT retrieves from one table, no other columns are retrieved, and there is no WHERE clause.
This optimization applies only to MyISAM and ISAM tables only, because an exact record count is stored for these table types and can be accessed very quickly. For transactional storage engines (InnoDB, BDB), storing an exact row count is more problematic because multiple transactions may be occurring, each of which may affect the count.

Interesting although I DO think after reading all of it that CJay was a bit incensed at the idea you presented to him (whether you think so or not).

I also think he was very careful not to let on how little he's (in all probability) actually coded himself and sounded just a bit flustered with the guy CNet assigned to the project of rebuilding his "baby".

The bottom line is (which he inexplicably avoided) that no matter how improved a third party source may be, now that CNet owns all of his intellectual property, they'd never use it for fear of legal troubles down the road. And believe it or not, Veasey is NOT calling the shots anymore - at all (Bethany M's hiring should be proof of that).

Last note is that despite you catching wind of all of the bad things people say, Obo just recently said that your coding is very good in a seperate topic (I can try to dig it up if you need proof). He was merely playing to CJay like almost everyone does when they chat with him - I think it's some sort of wierd star-struck syndrome. You shouldn't take it to heart.

Well perhaps; stranger things have happened. But it seems to me he was only trying to get me to abandon the notion from the very start.

I also think he was very careful not to let on how little he's (in all probability) actually coded himself and sounded just a bit flustered with the guy CNet assigned to the project of rebuilding his "baby".
True. I doubt he did any coding on the new boards, actually.

The bottom line is (which he inexplicably avoided) that no matter how improved a third party source may be, now that CNet owns all of his intellectual property, they'd never use it for fear of legal troubles down the road. True again, but he's a very influential voice with regard to GameFAQs at this point.

Well I take his comments with a grain of salt. One day I'm a good coder, the next Jay can run circles around me in his sleep.

CJayC: We used to publicize Neo's GFH source, but not since the last few rounds of the boards help pages.

Ooh! I thought I was the only one who remembered it.
